Our job is to help people do more for themselves. Cook a meal. Catch a bus. Manage a routine. Go to work, college or a club they enjoy.
We work at the pace of the person and communicate in the way that suits them. Every plan is written around what the person wants to be able to do, and we review whether it is actually happening.

What a typical week looks like
Your week is planned with you, and it looks like your week rather than a care rota.
It might be a Monday shop and cook, a Wednesday shift at work with support to get there, a Thursday club, and a Saturday morning to sort laundry and post. Some of it you will do alone as confidence grows.
Your support worker writes down what happened and what you decided, and we look at the plan with you regularly. If something is not working, we change it rather than repeat it.

Common questions
Is a learning disability the same as a learning difficulty or autism?
No. A learning difficulty such as dyslexia affects specific skills. Autism is a developmental condition, and many autistic people do not have a learning disability. We support adults across all of these, and we will ask rather than assume.
How do you match a support worker to the person?
On interests, communication and personality as well as availability. We introduce people properly, and if the match is wrong we change it.
How do you support someone who does not use speech?
We learn the person's own way of communicating from them, their family and anyone who knows them well, whether that is signing, pictures, gestures or a device.
Do you support people to get to work, college or clubs?
Yes, including travel training so that over time the journey can be made independently where that is possible.
Can you support someone with a learning disability and complex health needs?
Often, yes. It depends on the specific needs and the training involved, and we will tell you honestly at the assessment rather than take on something we cannot deliver safely.
How are families and advocates involved?
With the person's agreement, they are part of reviews and decisions. Where someone has an advocate, we work with them as a matter of course.
