Personal care covers getting out of bed, washing, dressing and taking medication on time. These are usually the first things to become difficult, and the last things anyone wants help with.
Accepting that help takes trust, so we go slowly. Our carers explain what they are doing, ask before they act, and let you decide how things are done. If you can manage part of a task yourself, that part stays yours.
This is the service most people mean when they ask about home care in Derbyshire and Staffordshire. Visits can be a single morning call, or spread across the day from getting up to settling at night, and the plan follows your routine rather than our rota. Every carer is trained, DBS checked and introduced to you properly before they start.
What personal care at home includes
Your plan is built at your free assessment and only ever includes what you want it to. Typically it covers:
- Help with bathing, showering and washing
- Support with dressing, undressing and choosing what to wear
- Grooming, shaving, hair care and oral hygiene
- Discreet continence support and personal hygiene assistance
- Medication prompts, and administration where agreed in your plan

What a typical morning visit looks like
Your carer arrives at the agreed time, lets you know they are there, and asks how you have slept before anything else. The visit runs to your order, not a checklist.
They support you to get up, wash and dress at the pace that suits that morning, offering choices as you go. Medication is prompted at the usual time. Breakfast is made how you like it, and the kitchen is left clean.
Before leaving they check you have everything within reach, make a note of anything worth flagging, and confirm the time of the next visit. If anything has changed in your health, your family hears the same day.

Common questions about personal care
Can I request a male or female carer?
Yes. We record your preference at the assessment and build it into the rota. If we cannot meet it on a particular day we will tell you in advance rather than send someone unexpected.
What is the shortest visit you offer?
We build visits around the tasks rather than a fixed minimum, and we will tell you honestly if a short visit is not long enough to deliver the care safely.
Are your carers able to administer medication?
Carers can prompt medication as standard. Administration is provided where it is agreed in your care plan and the carer is trained and signed off for it.
Is personal care the same as home care?
Broadly, yes. Home care is the general term, and personal care is the part of it covering washing, dressing, continence support and medication. Most home care packages in Derbyshire and Staffordshire start here.
What if my needs change after care starts?
We review plans regularly and you can request a review at any time. Visits can be added, shortened or reduced as things change.
Do you cover weekends and bank holidays?
Yes. Care does not stop at weekends, and your regular visits continue through bank holidays.
