Accessibility Statement

What we are aiming for

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 at level AA. That is the standard UK public sector websites are held to, and it is a reasonable bar for a care provider whose visitors are frequently older people, people with disabilities and their families.

What we have done

• Body text is never smaller than 16 pixels, and the page can be zoomed to 500 per cent without breaking. We do not block pinch zoom.
• Text and background colours meet a contrast ratio of at least 4.5 to 1.
• The whole site can be operated with a keyboard, and the element you are on always has a clearly visible focus outline.
• There is a skip to main content link at the top of every page.
• Every form field has a visible label, errors are announced to screen readers, and touch targets are large enough to hit comfortably on a phone.
• Headings run in a logical order with one main heading per page, so screen reader users can navigate by structure.
• Images carry descriptive alternative text, and decorative graphics are hidden from screen readers rather than read out as noise.
• Expandable sections such as the frequently asked questions are built with standard HTML, so they work even if JavaScript does not load.
• Animation is kept minimal and is switched off entirely if your device is set to reduce motion.
• We do not use a captcha, because they exclude exactly the people we most need to hear from.
• Our learning disability support page has an easy read version, written in short sentences with a picture beside each point. If you would find an easy read version of another page useful, please tell us and we will make one.

Known limitations

• If you choose to load a map, the map itself is provided by Google and its accessibility is outside our control. The address is always available as plain text next to it, and you never have to load the map to get our contact details.
• This statement is based on our own testing. A formal independent accessibility audit has not yet been carried out.
