Service: 7–17 years | Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) and/or Learning Disabilities (LD)
Status: New home preparing for Ofsted registration (Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 & Quality Standards)
Location: Derby City (excellent local transport links)
Contract: Full-time & part-time | Rotating shifts (days/evenings/weekends), sleep-ins and waking nights
Salary: Competitive, plus sleep-in allowance & overtime enhancements

About TKS Residential Children’s Home

TKS is opening a high-quality, nurturing residential children’s home in Derby for up to three young people aged 7–17 with EBD and/or LD. Our practice is trauma-informed and relationship-based, drawing on approaches such as the Secure Base Model and PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy). We work closely with education, health and social care partners to achieve excellent outcomes.

Please note: Appointments will be subject to Ofsted registration being confirmed. Offers may be made on a conditional basis.

The Role

As a Support Worker, you will provide day-to-day care, stability and opportunities that help children feel safe, learn, and thrive. You will be part of a small, skilled team delivering personalised support plans that promote safety, independence, education and fun.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build trusting, therapeutic relationships with children using trauma-informed practice (Secure Base, PACE).
  • Provide consistent daily care: routines, personal care (where needed), mealtime support, medication (after training), and transport to school/activities.
  • Implement individual placement plans, risk assessments and positive behaviour support strategies; use de-escalation and only use approved physical interventions as a last resort and with training.
  • Promote education, hobbies and community participation; plan purposeful activities in and out of the home.
  • Complete high-quality records: daily logs, incident reports, safeguarding notes, health/medication records, key-work sessions, and outcomes tracking.
  • Safeguard children at all times in line with legislation, local procedures and TKS policies.
  • Participate in rotas (including sleep-ins/waking nights), handovers, team meetings, supervision and continuous professional development.
  • Communicate effectively with families, social workers, schools and professionals; contribute to reviews and meetings.
  • Maintain a warm, homely, clean environment and uphold health & safety and infection-prevention standards.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • A genuine commitment to children’s rights, safety and wellbeing.
  • Experience supporting children/young people with EBD and/or LD (residential, education, fostering, youth work, SEND or similar).
  • Resilience, empathy, patience and strong boundaries; able to remain calm under pressure.
  • Good written and IT skills for accurate recording and reporting.
  • Willing and able to work a 1 on 2 off  rota including evenings, weekends, bank holidays, sleep-ins or 3 on 3 off waking nights.
  • Right to work in the UK and satisfactory Enhanced DBS with Children’s Barred List (we’ll support the application).
  • Two satisfactory employment references (one must be your most recent/last child-related role, if applicable).

Desirable

  • Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (England) (or equivalent). If not held, willingness to complete within required timescales (funded).
  • Training/skills in any of the following: Autism, LD, PBS, de-escalation, Attachment & Trauma, Makaton/PECS, Epilepsy & rescue meds, Diabetes support, ADHD, sensory needs.
  • Full UK driving licence and confidence to drive service vehicles.
  • Experience completing care plans, risk assessments and multi-agency working.

About the Role:

This hybrid field-based position offers variety and purpose—combining hands-on care with leadership responsibilities. You’ll be delivering high-quality, person-centred care while mentoring junior staff, supporting care coordination, and ensuring excellent service for our clients in their homes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide compassionate personal care, medication support, companionship & more
  • Lead by example—mentor and supervise junior care staff
  • Conduct care assessments and ensure care plans are up-to-date
  • Support with rota management and cover in emergencies
  • Maintain accurate care records and uphold compliance standards
  • Liaise with families, healthcare professionals & the wider care team
